Legislation is Introduced - Any member can introduce a piece of legislation





House - Legislation is handed to the clerk of the House or placed in the hopper.



Senate - Members must gain recognition of the presiding officer to announce the introduction of a bill during the morning hour. If any senator objects, the introduction of the bill is postponed until the next day.

Mothers of Incarcerated Son's and Daughters (M.I.S.D.)

September 23, 2009 through September 26, 2009, M.I.S.D. will serve as host for Ms. Joyce Ann Brown. Ms. Brown served 9 years, 5 months and 24 days in the Texas system for a crime she did not committ. Upon release she began the organization Mothers, ( Fathers), for the advancement of social systems, and will celebrate her 20 year release in November. Ms. Brown will speak at several locations and that information will be posted. Please check back often.

Public amusement places.

Without going into a lot of details at this time, please warn all young people particularly young men of color about going to public places. Tell them to always take someone with them, in case they need a witness about something, and to make very sure they do not have anything with them that is illegal. NAACP'S role in Reggie Clemmons case

Recent e-mail from Mrs. Anita Russell, President of the Kansas City branch states NAACP is involved wiith Mr. Clemmons case. The NAACP Missouri State Conference is working to schedule a meeting with the Governor within the next five days. Meetings are being held in St. Louis by Rev. Understanding causes of criminal activity, and the cost of incarceration.

In August 2003 Gail Russell Chaddock staff writer for the Christian Science Monitor stated more than 5.6 million American's are in prison or have served time there, according to a report by the Justice Department.
